WVC launches Coffeehouse series with retirement concert by longtime groundskeeper Tom Martin

WENATCHEE — Wenatchee Valley College will mark longtime facilities worker Tom Martin's retirement with a free night of music Friday, Oct. 9, that also serves as the first event in a new Coffeehouse performance series.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. in The Grove Recital Hall in the college's Music and Art Center, with light snacks. Performances run from 7 to 9 p.m.

Martin has worked on the college's facilities team for more than 20 years.

"He has helped keep the Wenatchee campus grounds looking their best and has quietly saved the day more times than anyone can count," said Erin Williams, program manager in WVC's Facilities and Operations department. "WVC is a better place because of his many years of dedication, and his ability to find the shutoff valve."

Martin grew up on 1960s folk music and plays a mix of folk, singer-songwriter favorites and some of his own songs on guitar and vocals, often joined by friends and family. He has performed at several college events, including a Wenatchee campus commencement ceremony.

The college said the Coffeehouse series will feature free performances of live music and poetry by regional performers. Students, faculty, staff and community members interested in performing can contact Martin at tmartin@wvc.edu.
