WENATCHEE — The Wenatchee Valley Museum & Cultural Center exceeded a fundraising goal tied to a $2.5 million matching gift for its Branch Out campaign, the museum announced.
The dollar-for-dollar match was established by philanthropist Dean Weidner before his death and carried a June 30 deadline. The museum said 179 donors contributed during the matching period, with individual donations ranging from $10 to $600,000.
The contributions came from five states and communities across Washington, according to the museum.
“Support for this project came from far and wide. A total of 179 donors generously contributed during the Weidner match opportunity, with donations ranging from $10-$600,000. We saw donations from five states, and certainly from every corner of Washington State. Gifts were given by donors whose families have lived here for generations, new community members, people who are in the process of moving here, and some who have second homes in North Central Washington. The support for the Museum, this project, and our role as the steward of our region’s history is humbling. We are incredibly grateful,” Executive Director Marriah Thornock said.
The fundraising is part of the museum's Branch Out campaign, a two-year project to renovate its campus, learning spaces and exhibits. Plans include expanded educational and family programming spaces, improved accessibility and stronger connections between the museum campus, Centennial Park and surrounding downtown areas.
The museum's historic buildings are now closed in preparation for construction. The project is expected to expand exhibit areas and create additional community gathering spaces.
“Mr. Weidner had a deep philanthropic spirit and community-building mindset, and immediately saw the importance of the Museum’s Branch Out campaign. He understood that creating state-of-the-art facilities, immersive exhibits, and inspiring educational opportunities has the power to transform a community and benefit the kids and families who will be able to take advantage of the programs and facilities for years to come. We are pleased to continue his commitment and support for the Wenatchee Valley Museum & Cultural Center’s transformative Branch Out campaign” said Weidner Apartment Homes Vice President of Public Relations and Govt Affairs Greg Cerbana.
Museum programming is continuing at other locations during construction. The museum's Downtown Branch at 30 S. Mission St. opened an exhibit this month titled “Moments that Made US. Our story was never inevitable. We shaped it at every turn.”
Additional museum programs and events are being held at locations throughout the community during the renovation.
