Wenatchee School District reminds drivers of school zone safety

Posted

WENATCHEE — The Wenatchee School District is reminding drivers to slow down and watch for students in school zones as classes begin Wednesday, Aug. 26.

The district said drivers should observe the 20 mph school zone speed limit, yield to pedestrians in crosswalks, follow directions from crossing guards and avoid distractions while driving. Drivers also are prohibited from passing school buses when red lights are flashing and the stop paddle is extended.

School zone traffic beacons may remain active later in the afternoon for students participating in enrichment and academic support programs that extend beyond the traditional school day, according to the district.

The district said the extended beacon hours are intended to protect students as they leave campuses after those programs.
