CHELAN — Authorities are investigating an armed robbery that occurred Monday morning at the Safeway gas station in Chelan.

According to Chelan County Sheriff Morrison, the incident took place around 9:47 a.m. when a masked suspect entered the gas station store. The suspect initially attempted to make a purchase using an invalid debit or credit card before demanding money from the store clerk.

During the robbery, the suspect kept his hand concealed under his shirt, leading the clerk to believe he might have been armed with a knife, though no weapon was visibly displayed. The clerk complied with the demand and handed over an undisclosed amount of cash before the suspect fled the scene.

Law enforcement officials describe the suspect as a male, approximately 5 feet 6 inches tall with a slim build.

Deputies responding to the scene conducted a canvas of the area and have secured evidence and surveillance footage as part of their ongoing investigation.

The Chelan County Sheriff's Office is requesting public assistance in the case. Anyone with information related to the incident is urged to contact Rivercom.
