MALAGA — A 24-year-old Malaga man was arrested Wednesday morning following a series of incidents that began with a welfare check and ended in a foot pursuit, according to the Chelan County Sheriff's Office.
Brandon M. Wilson was taken into custody after initially evading deputies who found him unconscious in his vehicle at the Malaga Market parking lot at 3821 Malaga Alcoa Highway.
Deputies responded to the location at approximately 6:09 a.m. after receiving reports that a male subject had been parked in the lot since 3:00 a.m. Market staff informed law enforcement that the individual had previously been observed with drug paraphernalia during similar incidents.
Upon arrival, deputies identified Wilson and determined he was likely under the influence. When officers informed Wilson of an existing felony warrant for his arrest, he reportedly attempted to start his black Chevrolet Suburban. As one deputy tried to remove Wilson from the vehicle, and another attempted to block the vehicle with a patrol car, Wilson fled the scene at high speed.
During his escape, Wilson allegedly damaged a patrol vehicle, forced a civilian vehicle off the road, and drove into oncoming traffic lanes. Deputies initially pursued but discontinued the chase due to public safety concerns, citing the early hour, Wilson's driving behavior, and his speed.
Approximately three hours later, at 9:22 a.m., authorities received a citizen report of a traffic offense involving Wilson in the Malaga area. Responding deputies located Wilson, who attempted to flee on foot before being apprehended.
Wilson was transported to the Chelan County Regional Justice Center and faces multiple charges, including reckless endangerment, attempting to elude a police vehicle, driving under the influence, second-degree malicious mischief, and resisting arrest.
