EAST WENATCHEE — A 65-year-old man was arrested early Wednesday after an hours-long standoff that began with a report of a knife threat outside an East Wenatchee convenience store.
East Wenatchee police responded shortly before 9 p.m. Aug. 25 to the 7-Eleven at 87 Ninth St. NE after a person reported being confronted and threatened with a knife at the store entrance about 15 to 20 minutes earlier.
The victim followed the suspect's vehicle to a residence a short distance from the store, according to police.
Officers showed the victim a photo lineup, and the victim identified a 65-year-old man as the suspect.
East Wenatchee police and other regional law enforcement agencies then attempted to contact the man at the residence, leading to a standoff and negotiations lasting several hours.
The man complied with officers at about 1:55 a.m. Aug. 26 and was taken into custody without further incident.
Police obtained a search warrant for the man's residence and vehicle during the investigation. Officers executed the warrant and seized evidence, though police did not specify what was recovered.
The man was booked into the Chelan County Regional Justice Center on suspicion of felony harassment and possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.
The Wenatchee Police Department, Douglas County Sheriff's Office, East Cascade SWAT Team and other regional partners assisted East Wenatchee police during the incident.
