Chelan County seeks volunteers for Veterans Advisory Board

Posted

CHELAN COUNTY — Veterans interested in helping other local veterans and their families can apply to serve on the Chelan County Veterans Advisory Board (VAB).

The VAB is a voluntary board that advises the Board of County Commissioners on the needs of local indigent veterans, available resources, and programs that could benefit veterans and their families. It has three vacancies to fill for 2027, with terms running Jan. 1, 2027 through Dec. 31, 2029. Members can serve up to three terms.

Applicants are required to be a veteran whose primary residence is in Chelan County. Membership in a nationally recognized veterans service organization, such as Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) or American Legion, is preferred but not required. The board needs at least a majority of board members to belong to a nationally recognized veterans service organization, according to the county.

The VAB meets every other month in the first-floor conference room of the Chelan County Administration Building, 400 Douglas St. in Wenatchee. All meetings are 1 to 2:30 p.m.

Applications are open through 5 p.m. Nov. 11. Applications and resumes can be sent to VSO@co.chelan.wa.us, or dropped off at 428 Orondo Ave. in Wenatchee during regular hours. Applications may be placed in the mailbox after hours. A DD-214 Member 4 Form may also be included in the application, but is not required.

Applications will be reviewed by the VAB, and selected applicants will be interviewed in early December. Questions can be directed to VSO@co.chelan.wa.us. Applications are available online at www.co.chelan.wa.us/veterans-program.
