Zadie May Stockman, a beloved mother, grandmother, and homesteader at heart.
Zadie May Stockman passed away peacefully on May 17, 2025, in Wenatchee, WA. She was born on March 15, 1941, to Luther and Ruby Gooch in Colbert, OK, where she was raised alongside her two sisters and two brothers.
Zadie met the love of her life, Raymond Stockman, in California. The two were soon married in Reno, NV, and together they built a life grounded in love, resilience, and family. They raised their three children in Silver City, NM, before making a life-changing move to Lake Chelan, WA, in 1987, where they remained ever since. The decision was sparked by a longing to be closer to her mother, who had relocated to Waterville, WA.
A pioneer in spirit, Zadie embraced the homesteading lifestyle long before it became fashionable. She was known for raising chickens, turkeys, rabbits, and goats, tending large gardens, and preserving everything she grew through meticulous canning. Everything in her kitchen was made from scratch and prepared with care and love.
When not hard at work, Zadie found joy in the simple pleasures of life, watching old John Wayne westerns by the fire and singing softly to her beloved cockatiels.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond; her parents, Luther and Ruby; her two sisters and one brother; and her cherished son, Dale.
Zadie's legacy continues through her daughters: Connie Godkin and Gail Stockman; her seven grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
A Graveside Service will be held on June 3, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Waterville Cemetery, where family and friends will gather to celebrate her remarkable life.
Arrangements by Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee.
