Sheryl Leigh Gross of Bridgeport, WA, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on May 17, 2025, at age 79. She was born January 29, 1946, in Spokane, WA, to Eldon “Shorty” Ransom and Alice Belle May-Ransom.
Growing up on Spokane’s South Hill, she graduated from Lewis & Clark High School Class of 1964. She was active in school activities, participating on the drill and cheer team. She won the “Crisco Foundation Award” for most outstanding student in Home Economics. This passion, paired with her seemingly endless energy and curiosity, served her well. She excelled at many skills from gardening, cooking, canning, knitting, crocheting, sewing clothes for the family, to preparing wild game & fish (there was nothing she wouldn’t try or tackle), even painting and home remodeling.
She was very active with close friends and family throughout her life, playing bridge, pinochle, and cribbage. A fun and fierce competitor to any who had the blessing of playing cards with her.
She married Walter “Dale” Gross in 1971 and the two of them operated Gross Drug Store in Bridgeport until 2015, supporting the community that they loved.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale; and their daughter, Becky Mae Gross; as well as her parents and brother, Richard Ransom. She is survived by sister, Christine Phillips and husband Tom Phillips (Auburn, WA); daughter, Jill Stone-Harenberg and husband Scott Harenberg (Albuquerque, NM); son, Dan Gross and wife Corrina Gross (Rogers, AR); son, David Gross and Ina Fisk (East Wenatchee, WA); and three bonus daughters: Shan Miller and husband Allen Miller (Mansfield, WA), Wendy Gross (Bridgeport, WA), Kerrie Gross (Quincy, WA); 15 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was a member of Mansfield United Protestant Church and her wishes were to be cremated. A celebration of life will be held in Bridgeport, WA, on September 6, 2025 (details to follow in the near future).
In Lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Sheryl’s Memory to give.kidneyfund.org.
