Obituary

Ronald Lamoyne Knutson

Posted

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Ronald Lamoyne Knutson.

“Poppie” as he was affectionately and widely called fell asleep on April 14, 2025 at the grand age of 90.

Ron was married to his teenage sweetheart Joyce for 71 years. He is survived by his five children and their spouses—Steve and Barb Knutson, Lori and Dan Parker, Cindy and Jimmy Pierce, Candy and Peter LaPlante, and Heidi and Dave Bozett; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; his brother Sam Knutson and sister Sandy Knutson; and many nephews and nieces.

Ron also had many that called him Poppie-whether adopted, surrogate, extended, or just plain chosen by him, he treated them all as his own. Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Vena Knutson, and his brother, Jerry Knutson. Ron had an outsized impact on all who knew him. He was a mentor to many, an unwavering spiritual influence in his community, and a pillar of reliability for the businesses he built.

His success as a builder led to him and Joyce successfully building, owning, and operating retirement homes in the Pacific Northwest for over 50 years. Their prosperity was generously shared with their church and provided financial support for many. His untiring belief in God and the promises of Jesus inspired him to write, over 10 years and several books, his weekly “Happy Sabbath Message.” He shared his beliefs in a compelling yet gentle and thought-provoking way, and he lived them to the fullest. Ron had a great love for flying airplanes, golf, fishing, fast cars, horses, and above all, anything involving his family. Ron always found ways to make things fun. He was a heck of a dancer. Ron will be laid to rest on May 17 in Wenatchee, Washington.
