Pateros junior Stevie Simmons named WIAA Athlete of the Week

PATEROS -- Varsity girls’ basketball standout Stevie Simmons has been named Week 19 WIAA Athlete of the Week by the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association. Simmons’ selection recognized the18 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 steals per game she averaged over three games between Jan. 14-17, against Oroville (52-10), Liberty Bell (47-34), and Curlew (52-43), contributing to three wins. She also recorded a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds while leading the team as the point guard. 

Head coach Jaren Henton said his junior team leader is averaging 13.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 5 steals per game this season. 

“She is one of the captains and has played high school basketball since her eighth grade year,” Henton said. “She also plays soccer in the fall runs track in the spring.”

Henton added that off the court Simmons is an academic standout as well.

“She is an exceptional student being one of the top in her class,” Henton said.

Pateros is currently undefeated and ranked first in the 1B Central Washington District with a 4-0 record and 14-4 overall.
