Eagle Scout constructs benches for Tierra Learning Center

Posted

LEAVENWORTH — Tierra Learning Center received four newly constructed benches as part of a local teen's Eagle Scout project.

Callie Holmes, along with friends and family members, built, painted and stenciled the benches, which have been placed throughout the Tierra campus in Sunitsch Canyon. Holmes selected the learning center as the beneficiary of her project after touring the facility last summer.

"We are so delighted to have her honor us with her work and create these benches that will be used throughout the year. We also appreciate the generosity of Dunn Lumber for donating the materials," said Executive Director Meeche White.

Tierra Learning Center provides homes and services for people with developmental disabilities in what they describe as a collaborative and integrated community. The organization operates through what they call "Three Pillars of Support": group home housing, employment services, and educational, vocational and recreational activities.

These programs aim to assist individuals with developmental disabilities in personal development through individual choice.

The Eagle Scout rank represents the highest achievement in the Boy Scouts of America program.
