WVFD presents plaque in honor of Division Chief Ron Roy for 50 years of service

WENATCHEE — Wenatchee Valley Fire Department (WVFD) Chief Brian Brett appeared before the Wenatchee City Council on July 24 with a memorial plaque that the WVFD would like to place inside the Wenatchee Convention Center.

Councilmember Linda Herald is also the General Manager of the Convention Center, and had been in contact with Chief Brett about the plaque in advance of the presentation. Brett had asked Herald to consider hanging the plaque at the Convention Center for a good reason: Division Chief Ron Roy, in his 50 years of volunteer service, had coordinated conferences at the Center for about three decades.

Additionally, the State Fire Departments host three to five conferences a year at the Convention Center. Brett told the council, “During breaks, if we were to have this plaque on display, I know that would resonate very well with all the firefighters and first responders of any type.”

Brett then described the significance of the object he displayed for the council. “This is a badge plaque. We were able to go back and obtain a badge for each rank, each position [and] department that Ron served with for the past 50 years.” The Division Chief passed away July 31, 2023 after a battle with cancer.

The plaque, which was created at Haglund’s Trophies, has a base or can be hung. The recommendation to hang the plaque at the Convention Center has now been forwarded to Mayor Mike Poirier’s office for consideration.
