WestSide High School to host family carnival, open house May 21

WENATCHEE — WestSide High School is inviting families to get a closer look at its alternative education programs during a Family Open House & Carnival scheduled for May 21 at the school’s campus on Ninth Street.

The event, running from 6–7:30 p.m. at 1509 Ninth St., will combine an informational open house with games, prizes and family activities in an effort to introduce prospective students and parents to the school’s flexible learning environment. The evening is being hosted in partnership with Communities in Schools of North Central Washington.

WestSide High School serves students from across the Wenatchee School District who may benefit from a nontraditional educational setting. The school emphasizes smaller class sizes, individualized support and flexible scheduling designed to help students stay on track for graduation while balancing academic, personal and social challenges.

School officials say the campus is built around the idea that students succeed in different ways and at different paces. Programs range from traditional six-period school days to hybrid and online models that allow students to complete coursework independently while still receiving in-person support from teachers and staff.

Among the options available are the school’s Day Program, the Bridges transition program, Credit Acceleration Program pathways tied to the Wenatchee Valley Technical Skills Center, remote online learning opportunities and alternative scheduling options for upperclassmen. WestSide also offers support for newcomer students through English language development services.

Families attending the event will be able to tour the campus, speak directly with staff and learn more about how students earn credits and move toward graduation. Representatives will also be available to answer questions about enrollment and program placement.

WestSide is currently accepting applications for the 2026–27 school year, including students living outside the Wenatchee School District through the school choice transfer process.

District officials say the event is intended not only to provide information, but also to help families see the school’s culture firsthand, which is centered on relationship-building, flexibility and creating a supportive space for students who may not have thrived in a traditional high school setting.
