WENATCHEE — The Wenatchee Valley YMCA will break ground on a new 46,000-square-foot facility in downtown Wenatchee on Thursday, April 10.
The ceremonial groundbreaking will begin at noon and feature light refreshments. The event will include speeches from local leaders, including Mayor Poirier and lead donor Dalton Thomas, both described as "major champions of this project."
"A new YMCA facility is more than a shiny new building; it's a symbol of our community's belief that the YMCA can provide impactful and life changing programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all," said Steve Robinson, an advocate for the project.
The new facility represents years of fundraising efforts and community support. Organization leaders stated that while the groundbreaking celebrates progress made so far, opportunities remain for additional community involvement.
"Raising money and building a new, 46,000-square-foot facility is tremendously challenging," Wenatchee Valley YMCA CEO Dorry Foster said. "We are incredibly grateful for the hard work and perseverance of our team and to our many financial supporters, local officials and community leaders who have made this day a reality."
The ceremony is expected to last approximately 30 minutes and is open to donors and community members. Those seeking additional information about the event or the project's significance to the community are directed to contact Dorry Foster at 509-662-2109 or by email at dorry@wenymca.org.
The groundbreaking represents "a new chapter in the story of how our community is building what matters for the future," according to the YMCA's announcement.
