WENATCHEE — After logging more than 300 hours of clinical experience as a freshman and earning recognition in state and national sports medicine competitions, Wenatchee High School student Bella Brown has been selected to attend the Congress of Future Medical Leaders next summer.

Brown, a member of the Class of 2029, was nominated to serve as a delegate to the honors-only program, scheduled for June 23-25, 2027, at the University of Massachusetts Lowell campus. The congress brings together high school students from across the country who aspire to careers as physicians or medical researchers.

Her nomination was signed by Nobel Prize-winning physician and scientist Dr. Mario Capecchi, who cited Brown's academic achievement, leadership potential and commitment to serving humanity through medicine.

Brown has already built an impressive résumé during her first year at Wenatchee High School. She participated in the school's Sports Medicine program, competed through the Washington Career and Technical Sports Medicine Association at both the state and national levels, placing fourth in anatomy and physiology at state competition and 10th nationally. She also earned the program's Future Leader in Medicine award and received two varsity letters after completing 315 clinical hours.

Outside the classroom, Brown balanced those commitments while serving as a starting player on the Wenatchee High School junior varsity soccer team and a local club soccer team.

As a sophomore, she plans to continue in the Sports Medicine program while taking AP Biology, Genetics and Psychology, continuing to gain clinical experience and compete through the Washington Career and Technical Education Sports Medicine Association.

The Congress of Future Medical Leaders is an invitation-only program designed to encourage high-achieving students interested in medicine and medical research. During the three-day event, delegates hear from Nobel laureates, leading physicians, medical school leaders and researchers while learning about advances in medicine and potential career pathways.
