Wenatchee School District sponsors Free Summer Meals Program for Wenatchee kids

Posted

WENATCHEE — This summer, every child 18 and under in Wenatchee is going to be eligible for no-cost breakfast and lunch simply by showing up at the right place and time. There’s no school bell, so they’ll have to mind the clock, but Mission View Elementary will be the site of a lot of free food going to kids who need it most.

From June 23 to July 17, Monday through Thursday, kids have a 45-minute window for breakfast beginning at 7:45 a.m. From 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., kids can come back to Mission View for lunch.

This isn’t a grab-n-go — anything kids get from the school must be consumed onsite. But that only encourages older kids to bring their younger siblings along, so they can all eat together.

If kids do want grab-n-go lunches, however, there’s another free option for them, and it runs two weeks longer than the school district’s program. Local non-profit Small Miracles will be handing out sack lunches from June 23 to July 31. This program does have multiple locations, as well.

From 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Monday–Thursday, kids can go to Washington Park, Lincoln Park, Methow Park or Pioneer Park to snag lunch on the run.

Locations are as follows:

  • Mission View Elementary, 60 Terminal Avenue
  • Washington Park, 110 S. Miller Street
  • Lincoln Park, 1410 Mission Street
  • Methow Park, 420 Methow Street
  • Pioneer Park, 1620 Russell Street

If you have or know of a child in need, please let them know about this program. No child should go hungry, and the Wenatchee School District and Small Miracles are doing something about it.
