WENATCHEE — The Wenatchee City Council appointed Mayra Navarro Gomez to fill its vacant At-Large B seat during its February 13 meeting, following a selection process that began in December 2024.

Navarro Gomez, a Spanish teacher at St. Joseph's Catholic School with 15 years of education experience, was recommended by the council at their January 23 meeting. The appointment fills the seat that became vacant in December 2024.

The council reviewed applications from interested candidates in December, interviewed five finalists, and made their recommendation last month.

"We received so many applications and community interest for this important role. I'm so grateful that the community wants to be involved in the work that we do and I'm looking forward to working alongside Councilmember Navarro-Gomez," said Wenatchee Mayor Mike Poirier.

Navarro Gomez identified infrastructure concerns, community safety, housing, and education as focus areas. She stated her intention to build stronger relationships with all stakeholders.

She will begin serving on the council effective immediately.
