Thriving Together to host Mental Health First Aid educational course Friday, July 24

Posted

EAST WENATCHEE–  Community members interested in learning how to recognize and respond to mental health and substance use challenges can attend a free Mental Health Aid (MHFA) training offered by Thriving Together NCW on July 24.

The day-long, evidence-based course will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Thriving Together NCW office. The training is designed to equip participants with the skills to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental health and substance use concerns and to provide initial support until appropriate professional help can be accessed.

Participants will learn the Mental Health First Aid action plan, known by the acronym ALGEE: assess for risk of suicide or harm, listen nonjudgmentally, give reassurance and information, encourage appropriate professional help and encourage self-help and other support strategies.

Thriving Together NCW works to build support and adaptive communities through webinars, workshops, and skill-based trainings. Their mission is to advance health and wellbeing in North Central Washington. Other courses offered in the area include the De-Escalation & Conflict Resolution and Motivational Interviewing.
