CASHMERE — Cashmere Community Concerts will welcome Runaway Train for an evening of traditional bluegrass music on Saturday, May 17. The concert begins at 7 p.m. at the Cashmere Community Church, located at 213 S. Division St.
Runaway Train, based in the Pacific Northwest, has been performing since the early 2000s. The group has appeared at major festivals throughout the region and has served as the host band for Bluegrass in the Forest in Shelton, Washington, since 2005.
While the band's lineup has evolved over the years, Greg Linder and Kent Powell have remained at the core, with Linder on guitar and vocals and Powell on bass and vocals. The current roster also includes John White on mandolin and vocals, Clayton Hess on banjo, and River Scheuerell on fiddle.
Runaway Train is known for its dedication to the traditional bluegrass sound, while occasionally venturing beyond genre boundaries to incorporate new elements. Their performances feature a blend of classic standards and contemporary influences, shaped by years of touring and collaboration.
The event is organized by Cashmere Community Concerts, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide live, affordable, high-quality entertainment to the Wenatchee Valley. A $5 cover charge will be collected at the door to help offset event expenses, and refreshments will be available.
Musicians will be compensated through a one-time Hat Pass, with a suggested donation of $8 to $15 per person. The concert will be presented in an alcohol-free environment with concert seating. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.
