Rock Hounds Geology Hike planned at Horse Lake Trail

Posted

WENATCHEE — The Wenatchee Valley Humane Society will host “Rock Hounds,” a guided geology hike, from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 9, at Horse Lake Trail.

The 4-mile guided walk will be led by geologists Riley and Chris of Nelson Geotechnical Associates, who will discuss the geology of the Wenatchee Valley, including the formation and age of the landscape and notable geological features along the trail.

Participants may bring dogs or attend without pets. Organizers said attendees should be prepared for a 3-mile dirt road leading to the trailhead and are encouraged to carpool. Parking will be available past the trailhead at the gate turnaround.

The event is part of the humane society’s “Pets and People Outdoors” series, sponsored by Nick McLean Real Estate Group.

According to the humane society, the series is intended to encourage outdoor recreation and community engagement for people and pets.

The Wenatchee Valley Humane Society, founded in 1967, serves Chelan and Douglas counties through animal sheltering, pet adoptions, cruelty investigations and community assistance programs.
