ORONDO — The Orondo School District will open its doors to the community Oct. 14 for a ribbon cutting, open house and an evening of aerospace activities.
The event begins at 5:30 p.m. with a ribbon cutting and tours of the district’s new Early Learning Center, housed in the renovated Old School House. The facility was funded in part by a grant of more than $1 million from the Washington State Department of Commerce.
“We were so honored to be selected for the Washington State Department of Commerce Grant which gave us over a million dollars to renovate the Old School House to become an early learning center,” Superintendent Dr. Stephanie Andler said. “The project took a little over two years and currently hosts community and ECEAP program slots for three and four year olds. We hope to expand our program enrollment over the next several years with the additional classroom space.”
Following the ceremony, the Museum of Flight and 21st Century will lead aerospace-themed activities for students and families.
“Our partnership with the Museum of Flight is providing our students and community a chance to access cutting-edge science technologies and exploration in the field of aeronautics and aerospace and how it relates to our community,” Andler said. “There are so many future career opportunities in our local region and throughout our state in these fields that students may want to pursue in the future. Wenatchee Valley’s history is steeped with aviation and agriculture and we hope to highlight these things in our region and increase opportunities for our students together with community partners in future years.”
The Orondo School District, located along the Columbia River in Douglas County, serves about 130 students from preschool through eighth grade.
