WENATCHEE — The Youth Education Team from the WSU Chelan-Douglas Master Gardener Program will host a free family gardening event June 20 at the Community Education Garden in Wenatchee.

The event, titled “Little Sprouts, Big Dreams,” is scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon at the garden located on the northwest corner of Western and Springwater avenues. Organizers said the program is designed to increase awareness of the natural environment and encourage gardening among children and families.

Planned activities include a garden scavenger hunt focused on pollination, bee-themed crafts, demonstrations of beekeeping equipment and honey varieties, vegetable-stamp decorating, seed ball making with native plant seeds, sunflower planting and a story walk based on a children's book about learning to enjoy tomatoes.

Organizers will also encourage children to enter their sunflowers in the NCW Fair or the Chelan County Fair.

The event is part of the Third Saturday in the Garden series hosted by the WSU Chelan-Douglas Master Gardener Program. Upcoming programs include “Creating a Healthy, Resilient Garden” on July 18, “Tomato Tasting Gala” on Aug. 15 and “Garden Expo” on Sept. 19.
