CHELAN — Five student musicians from the region have been awarded scholarships to support their continued musical development, the Valley Winds Community Concert Band and the Bob Myers Memorial Scholarship Fund announced this week.

The awards include the Valley Winds Concert Band Summer Youth Music Scholarship and the Bob Myers Memorial Music Scholarship, both aimed at encouraging excellence in instrumental music among young performers.

The Valley Winds Concert Band scholarships, funded through donations collected at seasonal concerts and with support from Chinook Music of East Wenatchee, provide $300 each to help students attend summer camps or lessons.

This year’s recipients are:

  • Adele Esmond, percussionist with the Cashmere High School Band, to attend a summer music camp

  • Daniela Ochoa Bernal, Chelan High School percussionist, to support private summer music lessons

  • Emily Pulsifer, Brewster High School percussionist, to attend band camp for the Eastern Washington University Marching Band

In addition, two students were selected for the Bob Myers Memorial Music Scholarship, named in honor of the late Bob Myers, a lifelong trumpeter and supporter of music education. The scholarship is funded by the Myers family and recognizes students who show dedication and excellence in instrumental performance.

This year’s recipients are:

  • Edmund Moore, a sixth-grade tuba player at Chelan Middle School, who received $400 to support summer music lessons

  • Eli Becerril, a trumpet player at Chelan High School and member of the graduating Class of 2025, who received $600 to support both summer camp and private instruction

“These scholarships not only recognize the musical achievements of these students but also help support their future endeavors in the arts,” the announcement stated.
