Posted

WENATCHEE — A series of community town hall meetings hosted by the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office Behavioral Health Unit will take place this week, offering guidance on navigating grief and loss, with a focus on how to support children during times of trauma.

The Chelan County Sheriff’s Office, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Wenatchee Police Department, and East Wenatchee Police Department are partnering to provide the events, which will be held in Leavenworth, Chelan and East Wenatchee from June 9 to June 11.

The public meetings will feature guest speaker Julie Boyer, Executive Director of Pacific Northwest Support Services. Boyer brings over 25 years of experience in trauma response and recovery, and specializes in trauma care for first responders, children and families. She also leads crisis response efforts and trains public safety teams on grief, trauma, and pediatric deaths.

“This event will offer practical guidance from mental health professionals, space for open discussion, and resources for families and caregivers,” the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post.

Topics will include how children process grief, age-appropriate language to discuss death, and local resources for healing.
