Lake Chelan School Board approves bond oversight committee, taking applications

Posted

CHELAN — The Lake Chelan School District Board of Directors has approved the formation of a Bond Oversight Committee to monitor spending if voters pass a proposed bond measure in the November 4 election.

Resolution 2025-06, adopted during the board’s Sept. 8 meeting, directs Superintendent Brad Wilson to establish the committee as an administrative body that will report to him, with periodic updates provided to the board and the public.

“The committee’s core purpose will be to carefully monitor the delivery of the proposed Bond program to ensure accountability, fiscal transparency, and community trust of the entire operation,” the resolution states.

The 10-member panel will include representatives from the business and financial sectors, construction and engineering professionals, parents of district students, and at least one individual who served on the Facilities Advisory Committee. Members must live within the district and cannot be district employees, officials, contractors, or vendors.

The committee will meet quarterly and provide an annual progress report to the board and the community. Its responsibilities include reviewing financial statements, construction documents, and bid solicitations, participating in contractor and vendor selection processes, and making recommendations to improve accountability.

“The committee will assist in maintaining public trust and confidence in the district through active involvement in communications related to the bond projects,” the resolution states.

While the group will not have authority to obligate district funds, its recommendations will be used to guide decisions by the superintendent and board. The committee will remain in place until all major bond projects are substantially complete and at least 95 percent of bond proceeds have been spent.

The district is accepting applications for the oversight committee. Wilson said the resolution was passed “in order to be prepared should our bond measure pass in November.” Interested parties may email him at wilsonb@chelanschools.org.
