WENATCHEE — A house fire erupted in the 800 block of Ringold Street in Wenatchee on Thursday, June 5, prompting a response from the Wenatchee Valley Fire Department and Wenatchee Police Department.

Crews responded to a call just before 1 p.m. and arrived to find one of the two homes that were damaged ablaze, with a single 47-year-old male occupant and his dog just able to escape the fire. The unidentified man was transported to Confluence’s Central Campus for treatment for smoke inhalation.

The original single-story, 2,200-square-foot home also had an unfinished basement and an attic, which both burned along with the ground floor. The attached carport was also demolished. It was from the carport that the fire reached across two driveways and extended to the adjacent property.

The flames eventually reached the overhang of the home next door, although a significant distance separates the two houses. From there, the attic of the neighboring house began to burn.

Firefighters at one point called in a second crew to relieve the first responders and treat them with IV fluids due to exhaustion from the fire and the high temperatures of the day.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
