Grand Kyiv Ballet returns to Numerica PAC Sept. 28 for 'Giselle'

WENATCHEE — Lovers of the ballet have another performance to look forward to this month, but it’s for one afternoon only. On Sunday, Sept. 28, the Grand Kyiv Ballet returns to the Numerica Performing Arts Center in Wenatchee for a production of the classical ballet masterwork “Giselle” with Artistic Director Alexandr Soyanov.

Giselle is a village girl with a fragile heart who loves to dance. She falls for a newcomer, “Loys,” unaware that he’s actually Count Albrecht in disguise and already engaged to another. When the jealous forester Hilarion exposes Albrecht’s identity during the harvest festival, Giselle’s world collapses — she descends into madness and dies.

Act II moves to a moonlit graveyard ruled by the Wilis: The spirits of young women betrayed before marriage. They are led by their queen, Myrtha. They force Hilarion to dance to his death and turn on Albrecht next. Giselle’s spirit intervenes, shielding him with her love until dawn breaks and the Wilis’ power fades. Albrecht is spared, but Giselle must return to her grave, leaving him alone with his remorse.

Themes of love, deceit, forgiveness, and the line between life and spirit make Giselle a romantic tragedy with some of ballet’s most haunting scenes.

The Grand Kyiv Ballet has been at the PAC multiple times, including performances of “Sleeping Beauty” and “Swan Lake” in 2025. Tickets are always available at the box office or by calling (509) 663-ARTS(2787), or on the Numerica PAC website at  https://purchase.numericapac.org/EventAvailability?EventId=801.
