CHELAN COUNTY – As the search for murder suspect Travis Decker continues, more analysis from crime scene evidence has created more questions and information for investigators to pursue.
According to a June 9 update from the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO), investigators have collected and received more analysis information from evidence found at the crime scene, including the suspect’s personal items from the truck recovered on scene.
An autopsy was completed Friday night by the medical examiner, confirming the cause of death to be suffocation, and the manner of death to be homicide. Blood samples taken from the scene have come back positive for belonging to a male, and another was not human blood. Further DNA and fingerprint analyses are still being conducted. CCSO also said Decker’s dog was recovered from the scene and turned over to the humane society for care.
Decker, 32, of the Wenatchee area, is wanted on three counts of first-degree murder and three counts of first-degree kidnapping in connection with the deaths of his daughters — Paityn Decker, 9; Evelyn Decker, 8; and Olivia Decker, 5. Their bodies were discovered June 2 near Rock Island Campground following a weekend-long search prompted by a missed custodial exchange.
“During any criminal investigation, including this one, there is law enforcement sensitive information that is not shared with the public in order to protect the integrity of the investigation,” said CCSO in the update. “We appreciate the public’s patience, understanding and cooperation during this complex and emotional investigation.”
The search has involved hundreds of officers and continues to rely on tips from the public, digital evidence, and information gathered through newly issued search warrants. While CCSO remains in command of the investigation, it has handed over command of search operations to federal authorities in order to rest local resources.
“Our command staff continues to be engaged with the search command while we give our teams time off to rest and recuperate and be ready to rejoin the search for, and capture of, the suspect,” said CCSO.
Authorities reopened public access to Icicle Creek Road and its surrounding recreation areas over the weekend after determining the area has no credible threat. However, the public is asked to stay vigilant, and report any information believed to be helpful to law enforcement.
Authorities advise that Decker should be considered dangerous and warn residents not to attempt to approach or contact him.
He is described as a white male, 5-foot-8, 190 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. A reward of up to $20,000 is being offered for information that leads directly to his arrest.
Anyone with information is urged to call the CCSO tip line at 509-667-6845 or submit a tip at https://www.co.chelan.wa.us/sheriff/forms/submit-a-tip.
If you see or believe you have seen Decker, call 911 immediately.
