EAST WENATCHEE — East Wenatchee Police Department and K-9 officer Maverick conducted several successful drug enforcement operations, resulting in multiple arrests and seizures over the March 7-9 weekend.
The police department's K-9 unit played a key role in six separate incidents, all resulting in the discovery of controlled substances, including methamphetamine, oxycodone, and fentanyl.
In one incident, Wenatchee Police Department requested K-9 Maverick's assistance to conduct an exterior search of an impounded vehicle. After Maverick positively alerted to the presence of narcotics, a search warrant was obtained, revealing methamphetamine inside the vehicle, which led to charges against a male suspect.
Later, during a routine traffic stop in the 100 block of 2nd Street SE, officers again deployed Maverick, who alerted to the presence of drugs. The vehicle was impounded and a search warrant was executed, resulting in the discovery of methamphetamine and oxycodone. The male suspect was located days later and booked on two counts of unlawful possession of controlled substances.
In the 200 block of Rock Island Road, officers conducted a traffic stop after recognizing a driver with a suspended license. K-9 Maverick indicated the presence of drugs, and after obtaining consent to search the vehicle, officers discovered fentanyl. The passenger was cited and released for unlawful possession of a controlled substance.
Officers also conducted a field contact with a driver slumped over the wheel in a parking lot near 5th Street NE and North Baker Avenue. After observing suspected narcotics in plain view and recognizing the driver as a suspect in a recent theft case in Wenatchee, officers received consent to search the vehicle and collected evidence, which was forwarded to Wenatchee Police Department in connection with the theft investigation.
In another incident, officers arrested a female with an outstanding misdemeanor warrant near 3rd Street SE and South Iowa Avenue after she attempted to hide under a blanket in the back seat of a vehicle. During a consensual search, officers found a small amount of fentanyl, which was collected for destruction.
The final incident occurred in the 100 block of Eastmont Avenue, where officers stopped a vehicle for multiple traffic violations. K-9 Maverick alerted to the presence of narcotics, and the front passenger admitted to possessing methamphetamine. The male suspect was arrested and booked into the Chelan County Jail for unlawful possession of a controlled substance.
