LEAVENWORTH — A 32-year-old East Wenatchee man was arrested Wednesday after allegedly pointing a handgun at another driver and firing several shots from his vehicle on Highway 2, authorities said.

Daniel Stephens was booked into the Chelan County Regional Justice Center on charges of drive-by shooting following the incident, which occurred around 12:47 p.m. Wednesday near Leavenworth, according to Chelan County Sheriff Mike Morrison.

The incident began when Stephens, driving a gold Jeep, pulled alongside another vehicle traveling eastbound on Highway 2. According to the victim's report, Stephens pointed a handgun at the victim and their passenger while passing their vehicle. After completing the pass, Stephens allegedly fired several shots into the air from his vehicle, then pointed the gun at the victim again and fired one or two more rounds.

Law enforcement, including Chelan County Sheriff's deputies, Washington State Patrol, and a Washington Fish and Wildlife officer, responded to the area after receiving reports of the incident.

Deputies located Stephens around 3:30 p.m. driving on Chumstick Highway toward Leavenworth. He was taken into custody without incident during a traffic stop.

During a search, deputies recovered four unfired 9mm bullets and two 20-gauge shotgun shells from Stephens' pockets. His vehicle was seized as evidence while detectives obtained a search warrant.
