CHELAN — Emergency responders in the Lake Chelan Valley will conduct a large-scale training exercise on Wednesday, April 29, and residents may notice an increased presence of emergency vehicles and personnel during the drill.
Lake Chelan Health Emergency Medical Services, in partnership with Chelan Fire & Rescue and Manson Fire Department, will host a Mass Casualty Incident training exercise from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Sargent Field.
The exercise will simulate a multi-patient emergency, allowing responders to practice coordinated care both on scene and at Lake Chelan Health Hospital. Community members may see ambulance traffic moving between the field and the hospital during that time.
Officials emphasized that the activity is only a training exercise and that there is no real emergency. Signage will also be posted around Sargent Field to notify the public that a drill is underway and help prevent unnecessary concern.
Students from Chelan High School’s MedClub and EMT students from the Wenatchee Valley Technical Skills Center will participate as mock patients, helping emergency crews run through realistic response scenarios.
The training is part of ongoing efforts to ensure local agencies are prepared to respond effectively in the event of a real mass casualty incident.
Officials said they appreciate the community’s understanding and cooperation during the exercise.
