CHELAN — A Chelan County Sheriff’s deputy used a pursuit intervention technique on Sunday night to stop a driver who attempted to flee at high speed on West Manson Road, according to a report released Monday.
The incident occurred around 7:40 p.m. on Nov. 23, when a deputy monitoring traffic in the 800 block of West Manson Road saw a silver sedan traveling significantly above the posted speed limit. While following the vehicle, the deputy noted additional signs consistent with possible impairment. The driver accelerated when emergency lights were activated for a traffic stop, reaching more than 20 miles per hour over the limit.
The pursuit continued east toward Manson, then north on Golf Course Road, where deputies reported that the driver briefly attempted to hide before fleeing again. When the vehicle returned to West Manson Road and entered the roundabout at Golf Course Road, a deputy used a pursuit intervention technique to disable the car.
According to the report, the driver got out immediately and moved toward deputies in an aggressive manner, ignoring commands to stop. A Taser was deployed when the man clenched his fists and continued approaching despite warnings. The action allowed deputies to take him into custody without injuries to officers or bystanders.
The driver was identified as 37-year-old Charlie Suarez of Chelan. The Sheriff’s Office said charges of attempting to elude, driving under the influence, and reckless driving are being forwarded to the Chelan County Prosecutor’s Office.
