Brewster man killed in 3-vehicle crash near Pateros

Posted

PATEROS – A three-car collision that occurred early in the morning of Friday, Jan. 17, near Pateros claimed the life of one driver and caused the temporary closure of US 97 while the Washington State Patrol conducted its accident investigation.

The collision occurred near milepost 256 at approximately 4:21 a.m. The preliminary investigation suggests the accident occurred when the southbound 2022 blue Chevrolet Silverado driven by Jonathon M. Husong from Tulsa, Okla., crossed the center line and struck the northbound 1998 silver Honda Accord driven by Brewster resident Alberto Martinez-Flores and the northbound 2016 dark blue Nissan Rogue driven by Andre O. Brown from Omak, before striking the guard rail.

The vehicles driven by Husong and Martinez-Flores came to rest, blocking the northbound lane. The vehicle driven by Brown cleared the roadway to a nearby driveway.

Despite wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident, Martinez-Flores was pronounced dead at the scene by the Okanogan County Corner, who notified the driver’s next of kin. Both Husong and Brown were also wearing seatbelts and were not injured.

The Accord driven by Martinez-Flores was totaled, while the other two vehicles sustained reportable damage and were driven from the scene. Both the Honda Accord and Chevrolet Silverado were taken into WSP custody as evidence.

While the accident remains under investigation, early results suggest Husong was allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs when the collision occurred. If so, he may face charges, including vehicular homicide.
