'Big Wenatchee Yard Sale' seeks donations, proceeds go toward preventing homelessness

Posted

EAST WENATCHEE — Maybe you have just enough stuff laying around your house that it’s time to get rid of it, but not quite enough to hold your own garage or yard sale. If so, local charity Serve Wenatchee is collecting your unwanted things in order to hold the Big Wenatchee Yard Sale at the end of the month, with all proceeds going toward their mission of preventing homelessness.

In case you missed our April story about the charity, they already provide a lot of services involving food, emergency rent relief, and even furniture to families in need. Now they’re organizing a community event to be held in the parking lot of Eastmont Community Church (ECC) in East Wenatchee, and there’s not much they won’t take.

A short list of items they can’t accept includes:

  • Clothes YOU wouldn’t buy at a yard sale (torn, dirty, or tattered)
  • Sofa beds or any furniture that’s hard to move
  • Bed frames or mattresses (for sanitary reasons)
  • Large appliances or medical equipment (which they don’t have testing capacity for)
  • Most things that require a safety rating, like helmets, life jackets, car seats, or tires
  • TVs and electronics like computers or phones

If you have an abundance of stuff that’s not on that list and you want to donate to a cause that everyone benefits from, there’s one more drop-off day left, on May 17 at ECC.

If you don’t have items to donate, but you still want to support Serve Wenatchee and the mission of preventing homelessness, you can come and shop at the Big Wenatchee Yard Sale. There will be a bake sale on site too, so there’s bound to be something you just can’t live without.

The Big Wenatchee Yard Sale will be held on May 31 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Eastmont Community Church, which is located at 783 4th Street NE in East Wenatchee, just below the high school.
